Hillsong Conference Day 3 Session 2

Jeanne Mayo
God’s Waiting Room

We are all waiting for a breakthrough. How do you handle God’s waiting room? Waiting is such a part of God’s plan in our lives. e.g. pregnancy, takes 9 months for a baby to come. What do you do while you are waiting?

3 biblical examples:
• John 5:1-11 – the man at the pool had been waiting for 38 years. v8: Jesus meant ‘what you are wanting is not in the pool; what you want is where you are’
1. You can often get what you are looking for right where you are if you stand up on the inside and go after it.

• Ruth, her husband died – she lost her finances, social standing in her community. She found someone who needs her.
2. Like Ruth, you inventory the good things in your life and give yourself to someone or something in your present situation.
Celebrating something in your present is key to your future.
Ruth was faithful, and Boaz was impressed as he observed her and eventually made her his wife.
Happiness is an inside job.

• God gave Joseph a vision of his brothers bowing down before him
3. Like Joseph, we can begin to develop the character traits in our present that are going to be needed in our future.
Joseph began to act like what he saw in the future. You can’t be a queen when you act like a peasant. A title cannot give you true authority – only character can.
Even when Potiphar’s wife wrongly accused Joseph, Joseph let it die. Don’t let resentment allow someone who hurt you to live rent-free in your mind.

You can either go on in your waiting period with a Christ honouring joy of the Lord attitude or you can shrivel up and let your bitterness eat you alive.

What is your choice?
