Happy Mummy’s Day!

Yesterday was Mummy’s Day!

And as with every Mummy’s Day, we had a sermon about motherhood. Yesterday’s topic was about a mother’s love, and it stirred something greater in my heart about motherhood. I’ve always wanted to be a mother; to have my own kids. In fact, my Primary 2 teacher to this day remembers that my ambition at that time was to be a mummy [how cute!] and the sermon made me want to be a mother more than ever!

I believe in the power of a mother’s love, and how it has a SIGNIFICANT impact on any child’s life. Not to say that fathers are not impactful; but I totally agreed with what Ps. Lailing shared today about a mother’s contribution to her family, especially her children. How we were made by God to be the nurturer/care giver/sensitive & compassionate one, etc. and how we were given these qualities/characters for this reason. That made me go YEAH!

Though I am FAR from ready to be a mother, I have a desire in my heart to be just that type of mother as Ps. Lailing had shared.

Thank God for mothers!

Happy Mothers’ Day to all the mothers in the world. You are the DIFFERENCE MAKERS in this world!

Mummy's day

Lots of love, Cassy

Romans 1-4

Currently I am delving into Psalms and Romans. Psalms was supposed to be my summer project, but it never got finished so I am just halfway through it. And Romans was just because its my favourite book!

Romans talks a lot about Christian living and [quote my NIV Bible notes] written for a sophisticated audience, (Romans) describes theology in a logical, organized form [unquote]

Now, from Romans I remember a few key verses like Romans 12:1-2, 8:28, 3:23 and 6:23 off the back of my head. Just because I’ve either 1) learnt them from songs when I was young, or 2) heard them quoted a lot of times. Not to undermine these verses, because when I read them again I believe I was touched even more deeply.

Since I was meant to blog about Romans AS I was going along, my laziness got the best of me so I will TRY to sum up what I have discovered thus far.

Romans 1 talks about the sinfulness of mankind, how they have wandered from their faith and given themselves over to their sinful desires.

Romans 2 tells us that it is only God who can pass judgment because He is holy and righteous, and His judgment is based on truth. We are not perfect, and so if we judge people, we are hypocrites. Righteousness comes from obeying His law, not from outward acts of “holiness” but it is the circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit.

Romans 3 goes on about righteousness: God’s light uncovers our darkness, yet we shouldn’t live any more in darkness just because it brings out more of God’s light. In the same way, God’s law only makes us conscious of sin but it is through faith in Jesus that ultimately saves/justifies us.

Romans 4 exemplifies Abraham, whose faith in God was credited as righteousness. It is not earned by works, but through faith. This is contrasted with working: wages/salary is given as an obligation for the work done, whereas God’s grace/redemption is given as a GIFT – the only condition to receive it is to have FAITH that Jesus died to save. Free for all who BELIEVE, so that we will truly understand the meaning of GRACE. For the law did not exist in Abraham’s time, yet God credited his faith as righteousness, even before the covenant of circumcision was established. And so, Abraham is our father – even though we are not circumcised, as long as we live out our faith. He is also the father of the circumcised, who are living out their faith because the covenant of circumcision was established through him. How Abraham lived out his faith – “Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead – since he was about a hundred years old – and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God about Isaac, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised” (v19-21). It can also be credited to us as righteousness by following his footsteps!
