How funny is this?

Saturday, May 14, 2011

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, ‘He who is coming will come and will not delay.’” Hebrews 10:36-37 (NIV)

God sometimes delays so you can see how patient you are.

If you’re discouraged because of God’s delay in answering your prayers, understand the delay is NOT a denial. Just because the answer hasn’t come – YET – that doesn’t mean God isn’t going to answer or that he’s forgotten you or that he doesn’t care about you.

It simply means “not yet!”

Part of becoming spiritually mature is learning the difference between “no” and “not yet,” between a denial and a delay. The Bible tells us, “He who is coming will come and will not delay.” (Hebrews 10:37 NIV)

God’s delay may be a test of your patience. Anybody can be patient once. And, most people can be patient twice. And, a lot of us can be patient three times. So God tests our patience over and over and over.

Why? So he can see how patient you are? No!

He does it so you can see how patient you are. So you’ll know what’s inside you, and you’ll be able to know your level of commitment. God tests you so that you can know he is faithful, even if the answers you seek are delayed.

If you’re discouraged, turn it around by remembering God teaches you patience during delay. Ask him to transform your discouragement into patience.

‘Who you are in Christ’

Without Christ, you are sinful, spiritually dead and the object of God’s wrath. Ephesians 2:1-10

v4: But God.
v10: With Christ, you are God’s masterpiece (NLT)
v8: Christ is a gift from God
v9: not saved by good works
Key point: not saved BY good works, but FOR good works, which he planned long ago/prepared in advance for us to do

“God don’t make no junk!”

Masterpiece = poiema (Greek), perfect workmanship, tapestry (woven together by a sovereign God). We are poetic statements of God.

As God’s masterpiece:
1. You are created for the Master’s purpose
Psalms 139:13-16. Before you were even born, God decided that you wil best glorify Him in this space of time, with your gifts and abilities. There is nothing ordinary about the same power that is within you that conquered the grave.
If you do not know the purpose of a thing, you will abuse the thing. If you do not understand your purpose; your life will just be time without meaning.
To find out your purpose, don’t ask other things – ask the creator of things.

2. You have everything you need to do everything that God wants you to do
2 Peter 1:3 – through the knowledge of Him
Don’t be so consumed with what you don’t have that you forget what you HAVE.

3. God uses everything in your life to bring about His purposes
Romans 8:28 – all things, including those you like and dislike
Eg. Joseph from a dream to disaster to a place of stature. Genesis 50:20.
If you feel like what you are going through/struggling with is unfair, if you have some deep scars, if you don’t like yourself; something went wrong along the way:
Let God remake you. Jeremiah 18:3-4
“Something went wrong with it” but God “shaped it the way He wanted it to be” (NCV)

Was cleaning out my closet and found this at the back of the shelf. Takes me back to a sweet comfortable embrace.
